The Pittsylvania County Solid Waste Department oversees the collection and disposal of trash from county citizens and businesses by managing 21 convenience centers, 10 "Green Box" sites, and the Pittsylvania County landfill. The distance from the northernmost site to the southernmost site is nearly 50 miles.
Even though Pittsylvania County is spread out geographically, the Public Works Department remains committed to providing convenient trash service for all of our residents. Waste from each of the sites is transported to the Pittsylvania County landfill in Dry Fork.
To fund these operations and ensure that every citizen has easy access to a clean, convenient location to dispose of their garbage, every household and business pays a solid waste fee of $120. Without these funds, Pittsylvania County would not be able to maintain these convenience centers or continue to open new ones.
