With the holidays quickly approaching, the Pittsylvania Pet Center currently has more than 60 dogs in its care. These are great dogs who, at no fault of their own, have found their way to the Pet Center and long for love and affection from a family.
To give these dogs a break from the shelter, the Pittsylvania Pet Center is launching a Thanksgiving foster program where residents can give an adoptable dog love, treats, and affection for the holidays.
“The entire team here at the Pittsylvania Pet Center couldn't be more excited about this great opportunity,” said Pittsylvania Pet Center Director Brent Weinkauf. “We are looking forward to sharing our awesome dogs with the community in their homes this Thanksgiving. This a tremendous program that is rewarding for our dogs as well as our community.”
Interested families can come into the Pet Center on Friday Nov. 20, Saturday Nov. 21, Tuesday Nov. 24, and by appointment on Nov. 22 and 23 to meet and select a dog to foster. The Pittsylvania Pet Center will provide the kibble and leash and the foster family will provide the love. Fosters can show off their guest to family and friends who may end up deciding to adopt the dog. At the very least, these dogs will have a break from the shelter and enjoy some treats.
The Pet Center is requesting that all foster families return their dogs by Saturday, Nov. 28.
“We have so many great dogs that just want to be with a family, and this program will be so great for them,” said Animal Care Manager Christine Warren. “Even if they don’t find a forever home, our dogs will have a great weekend and we will have learned more about them in a home setting. My wish is for every adoptable dog to have somewhere to go this Thanksgiving weekend.”
