In anticipation of the severe winter weather that is projected for early Thursday morning through Friday, all Pittsylvania County offices will be closed on Thursday, February 18. This includes all branches of the Public Library, the Pet Center, the Community Center, and the Pittsylvania County Courthouse.
The Board of Supervisors declared a local state of emergency during their business meeting last night in anticipation of this weather event. The National Weather Service is currently projecting that Pittsylvania County will see at least half an inch of ice accumulation, potentially causing even more widespread and severe damage than the previous weekend’s winter storm.
As of 1 p.m. today, approximately 2,700 Pittsylvania County customers spread between five different utility providers still do not have power from the previous ice storm. Many of our volunteer fire stations have opened their doors to the public in recent days and will continue to do so in the wake of this storm.
