Pittsylvania County Public Works would like to apologize for delays in emptying the receptacles at our convenience centers. Medical absences continue to plague our already short-staffed fleet of drivers. Fully staffed, we would have 7 drivers, all of whom could run different routes to either empty our compactors or replace full boxes with empty ones. In addition, we have a Fleet Foreman who is capable of driving routes when necessary and assisting with overflow.
Due to a variety of medical absences, we only have 5 drivers available at this time, and as a result of several other open positions within the solid waste department, our Fleet Foreman is handling landfill operational duties. All of our drivers are working overtime to maintain our convenience centers as best we can under the circumstances.
Due to nationwide staffing difficulties, companies that normally provide short-term help when we are short-staffed have been unable to help. We understand the inconvenience that this can cause to our citizens, and we are actively working to remedy the situation. In the interim, we ask for your patience during this time. If you arrive at a convenience center and find that every box and receptacle is full, please consider coming back later or driving to another site. You can find the list of sites here.
